Vending
on Ann Arbor City Streets and Sidewalks
City of Ann Arbor has imposed a peddler permit moratorium until
April 1. The city has also imposed a 3 day prior issuance rule which means
vendors have only April 1 and April 2 to apply for a city permit.
City requires personal appearance, insurance, and photo ID to apply.
Ronald A. Olson, Ann Arbor City Administrator, has taken it upon himself,
exceeding his legal authority, to ban all peddling around the University
of Michigan Diag. If you are a peddler, or have a sidewalk occupancy permit
near the Diag, or a T-shirt printer, who has been damaged or will be damaged
by the City Administrator's action, call us at 677-0009 to become a litigant.
at After Rally (tentatively at North University Ave btwn State
St and Thayer) City has denied our
permit request. Litigation may be pending. See "on Arbor City Streets and
Sidewalks"
First Amendment Protected: City Peddlers Permit NOT required. All goods must
bear a non-commercial message, word, or symbol. Hemp goods are not protected
(unless bearing a non-commercial message, word, or symbol). If you wish to
vend at the After Rally you will need to contact Rich at 734-677-0009.
Rich will submit a list of vendors who claim First Amendment Protection
to the City of Ann Arbor and the Ann Arbor Police.
Others: City peddlers permit required. Hopefully if the After Rally goes
well this year, After Rally organizers will seek a permit exemption
in future years. Contact Rich at 734-677-0009.
All After Rally vendors are requested to donate a portion of their
sales to defer costs to stage the After Rally.

The University of Michigan has steadfastly refused to allow any sales or
solicitations, even 1st Amendment protected activity, on or near the Diag,
except for University recognized organizations. Call us at 677-0009 if you've
been busted there.
